Security Risk Assessments
Healthcare organizations face increasing pressure to protect patient data while meeting strict regulatory requirements under HIPAA. However, many organizations operate with unknown vulnerabilities that expose them to breaches, fines, and reputational damage.
CyberShield Advisory provides comprehensive HIPAA risk assessment services designed to identify, analyze, and prioritize security risks across your organization.
Every security risk assessment ends with a clear, prioritized plan: what to fix first, who should do the work, and how to track progress.
Assessments We Offer
- NIST CSF 2.0
- HIPAA Security Rule
- CIS Controls v8.1
- C2M2 v2.1 (energy and critical infrastructure)
- Microsoft 365 Security Assessment
- Vulnerability & Network Scans
- Framework crosswalks (one assessment mapped across multiple frameworks)
The Problem We Solve
Most HIPAA assessments fail because they:
- Focus only on documentation
- Miss technical vulnerabilities
- Do not prioritize real risk
- Lack actionable remediation steps
This leaves organizations exposed despite “being compliant.”
What You Get
Our HIPAA Risk Assessment includes:

How Our Security Risk Assessment Works
- Scope. We agree on the systems, locations and frameworks in scope, and a fixed fee, in writing before work starts.
- Gather evidence. Interviews with leadership and IT, a review of your policies, and a technical review of systems such as Microsoft 365, endpoints, network devices and backups. Authorized vulnerability scans are included where agreed.
- Analyze risk. Each finding is rated by likelihood and impact, so you can see which risks matter most to your organization.
- Report and roadmap. You receive a plain-English report for leadership, the technical detail your IT team needs, and a phased roadmap with an owner for every item.
HIPAA Security Risk Assessment for Healthcare
The HIPAA Security Rule requires covered entities and business associates to conduct an accurate and thorough assessment of the risks to the electronic protected health information (ePHI) they hold. Our HIPAA security risk assessment follows the HHS guidance on risk analysis: we identify where ePHI lives, the threats and vulnerabilities that affect it, and your current safeguards, then rate the likelihood and impact of each risk and document a response for each one.
A Business Associate Agreement is signed before we access any patient data. No assessment can certify HIPAA compliance, but a documented, current risk analysis is the foundation regulators expect to see.
Choosing the Right Security Risk Assessment Framework
Not every organization needs HIPAA. We match each security risk assessment to your industry and obligations:
- NIST CSF 2.0 for a complete picture of your security program, based on the NIST Cybersecurity Framework
- CIS Controls v8.1 for practical, prioritized technical safeguards
- C2M2 for energy, utility, water and manufacturing organizations
- Microsoft 365 security baselines for the platform most small organizations run on
Findings from every framework are combined into one prioritized list, so you aren’t left reconciling separate reports.
Security Risk Assessment: Common Questions
How often should we do a security risk assessment? At least once a year, and again after major changes such as a new EHR or practice management system, a move to the cloud, an office move, or a security incident.
How long does it take? It depends on the size of your environment and the frameworks in scope. We agree on the timeline with you before work starts.
What do you need from us? A main contact, time with leadership and your IT team or MSP, and access to the systems in scope. We keep the time we need from your staff to a minimum.
What happens after the security risk assessment? Your team, your MSP or CyberShield can work through the roadmap. Remediation is always scoped separately, so you’re never locked in.
